Special category data is more sensitive personal information that needs extra protection. This can include information about health, disability, race or ethnicity, religion, political opinions, trade union membership, sex life or sexual orientation. The ICO explains that organisations need both a lawful basis under Article 6 of the UK GDPR and a separate condition under Article 9 when processing special category data.

Tutor Roles does not ask applicants or employers to provide special category data unless it is necessary for a specific purpose.

However, applicants may choose to include sensitive information in CVs, application messages or supporting documents. For example, an applicant may mention a disability, health condition, religious requirement, ethnic background, or other sensitive information.

Where you provide this information voluntarily, we will process it only where necessary for the relevant application, account, communication, legal or safeguarding purpose.

You should avoid including sensitive information unless it is relevant and necessary.

Tutoring roles may involve work with children, young people or vulnerable individuals. Employers may have safeguarding duties and may ask applicants about right to work, references, qualifications, background checks, DBS checks or suitability for a role.

Tutor Roles is a platform and does not normally carry out employer recruitment checks unless we clearly state otherwise.

Where criminal offence information, DBS information or safeguarding information is processed through the platform, we will process it only where there is a lawful basis and where it is necessary for safeguarding, legal, recruitment or platform safety purposes.

Employers are responsible for ensuring that their own recruitment, safeguarding and background checking processes comply with applicable law.
